Already the state’s largest artificial estuarine reef, the St Georges Basin expansion is an example of the NSW Recreational Fishing Trust being invested back into projects and initiatives to directly benefit recreational fishers.
Weather permitting it will take two weeks to deploy the concrete balls from a barge.
Once in place, St Georges Basin will then contain more than 1000 reef balls.
About 2800 concrete modules for artificial reefs have been deployed around the state in the Bellinger River, Lake Macquarie, Botany Bay, Lake Conjola and Merimbula Lake.
Further information about the St Georges Basin artificial estuarine reef can be found at www.dpi.nsw.gov.au/fisheries.
