The boys were hosted by the Raiders’ coaching staff who generously gave their time to impart their knowledge and experience to the Sharks’ 2015 brains trust.
Ack, who was a big part of the Raiders support staff when Michael and Tim were playing for Canberra, renewed a lot of friendships and caught up with some old mates.
Tim and Cottington on the other hand were privy to a full day of drills, skills and techniques that few get to experience.
Ricky Stuart and Dean Pay offered advice and coaching lessons which will be invaluable to the boys as they go about their coaching duties for the Sharks.
Moruya Sharks secretary John Cornall said Tim was renewing a past relationship with Stuart as he was head coach at Cronulla when Tim made his NRL debut.
“The trio were farewelled by Ricky and Dean, with the offer to come back anytime to continue the relationship,” Cornall said.
On Saturday night the annual match between the Group 16 All Stars and the Indigenous Dream Team at Bega Recreation Ground will be held.
The game kicks off at 7.30pm with a full afternoon of rugby league beforehand.
At 2.45pm Group 16 under 18s will play a trial against the Gungahlin Bulls under 18s.
Two trial games featuring Group 16 clubs will follow.
At 6.30pm a full contact women’s match between Group 16 North and South will be the curtain raiser for the main event.
The Moruya Sharks will be well represented on the night with seven women nominating for the ladies’ match.
There will be four Sharks running around for the Dream Team - Dennis Green, Jermaine Connolly, Caine Brierley and Kyle Brierley - and six players strapping the boots on for the All Stars - Tim Weyman, Pat McMahon, Dillon Johnston, Jake Clarke, Luke Jay and Shane Colebrook.
“As you can imagine there is plenty of talk and rivalry happening at training as the Dream Team attempt to reverse last year’s result and get one up on the All Stars,” Cornall said.
Ack Weyman Oval’s turf has been placed and it “looks a million dollars”.
The club has to wait until the grass takes before the players can play there.
In the meantime, training will continue at Gundary Oval.
“We also eagerly await the installation of our new goal posts,” Cornall said.
The Sharks have successfully applied to swap its round two game against Cooma.
It will move its home game to June 21 and travel to Cooma on March 29 for the club’s first competition game of the year.
“We praised Cooma for allowing this to happen, so that we can give our home ground as much time as possible prior to play,” he said.
