The discovery was made following a routine sweep of the trails behind Blackbutt Range Road, Yerriyong by council’s dedicated illegal dumping investigator.
After discovering a number of personal documents within the illegally dumped waste rangers followed up a series of inquiries leading to a full confession from the Nowra resident.
The man has since removed and transported the waste to the West Nowra Waste Facility before receiving the $4000 fine.
Ranger manager Michael Jarman said council had been working very closely with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to address illegal dumping in the Shoalhaven.
“Council’s dedicated illegal dumping investigator conducts regular routine patrols in known illegal dumping hot spots across the area,” Mr Jarman said.
“Both State Forests and National Park and Wildlife Services have large holdings in Yerriyong both of which attract a reasonable amount of illegal dumping due to the area’s remoteness and little passing through traffic.
“While it is not uncommon, it is extremely distressing to see people avoiding tipping fees and illegally dumping household rubbish in some of the area’s most pristine bushland.
“Council rangers have the ability to trace illegally dumped rubbish back to the source before handing out large fines to those residents caught partaking in this act.”
The illegally dumped waste included soiled nappies, food stuff, clothing, toys, carpet, car parts, metal cans, bottles, broken glass, a toilet cistern, a screen door and metal roofing among a host of other items.
