A BOMADERRY man at the centre of a five-hour siege in November last year was sentenced to 12 months jail in Nowra Local Court on Friday.

Achilleas Ioannou, 37, of Leonard Street appeared before Magistrate Geraldine Beattie, who dismissed charges of reckless wounding and assault occasioning actually bodily harm, but found him guilty of contravening an apprehended domestic violence order and with stalking and intimidating.
He had pleaded not guilty to all charges.
Ioannou was at the centre of a siege in Leonard Street Bomaderry on November 19.
Police documents stated Ioannou recklessly wounded a woman, his de facto partner of three years, in the foot between 11pm on November 18 and 12.01am on November 19 and also later assaulted her, occasioning actual bodily harm.
Police tried to speak to him about the incidents around 11am the next morning, with a stand-off eventuating in which Leonard Street and surrounding streets in Bomaderry were locked down.
Police set up a perimeter around the home as a precaution, and evacuated residents from nearby homes before starting negotiations with Ioannou.
Shoalhaven and Wollongong State Protection Group officers, along with the dog squad, were called to the scene.
Negotiations continued throughout the afternoon until the incident ended peacefully at about 4.10pm when Ioannou surrendered to waiting officers.
He was taken to Nowra Police Station and charged before being taken to Shoalhaven Hospital and was later transferred to Shellharbour Hospital.
Magistrate Beattie found him guilty of contravene an apprehended domestic violence order and with stalking and intimidating and sentenced him to 12 months’ jail, with a non-parole period of eight month on both offences, which will be served concurrently.
He was also ordered to undergo counselling and be under the supervision of the Probation and Parole Service once released.
He was also charged over an incident in Burwood, Sydney on December 26 last year and pleaded not guilty to contravening an apprehended violence order but guilty to intentionally and recklessly destroying or damaging property.
He was fined $200 over the matters and placed on an 18-month good behaviour bond.
He also pleaded guilty to damaging an eftpos machine at K-mart Nowra on December 16.
