Now father to three boys, his sons are also involved in the Scouting movement.
It doesn’t end there though - Rod has now become the group leader of First Nowra Scouts.
“I’ve seen a positive result in my sons,” he said.
“I’ve seen them develop a strength of character, a degree of leadership and a citizenship focus.
“The intangibles are they have a lot more self-confidence.
“I got good out of it and I believed my kids could and they have.”
First Nowra Scout Group and all local Shoalhaven Scout Groups are looking for adult volunteers to be leaders, helpers, skills advisors or committee members.
Anyone interested in growing the positive development of children is welcome to give as much or as little time as they like.
“You may have been a Cub, Scout or Guide,” Rod said.
“And you don’t need to have kids to have the right stuff.”
To be considered individuals will need to pass a thorough police check.
Comprehensive training is provided.
The aim of Scouting is to encourage the social, physical, intellectual, emotional and spiritual development of young people so they take a constructive place in society as responsible citizens and members of their local, national and international communities.
The Scouting movement is also based on the principles of serving God, acting considerately and using their abilities to better themselves, their family and others.
The Scouts follow a progressive self-education method and abide by The Scout Promise and The Scout Law.
