In 2013, Flow Theory was introduced into the Early Years (Prep – Year 4). Flow is characterised by a total positive immersion into any given task, a merging of action and awareness.

Learning programs for middle year students (Year 5-8) use the Metacurriculum model developed by Harvard University Graduate School of Education, which focuses on building deep levels of understanding of the subject matter.

The Year 9 program, Making Connections – Journeying beyond the Gates for Learning, is located at the All Hallows campus, three kilometres from the main campus.

Principal Patricia Cowling says: "Being offsite is a wonderful opportunity. The students are deeply immersed in their learning and have ownership of their programs in a special way."

Established in 1889, Genazzano FCJ is a Catholic day and boarding school.

"The religious education, spiritual and faith development in our girls is central to everything we do," says Ms Cowling. "We're a school in the wonderful tradition of the Faithful Companions of Jesus and we seek to prepare our students for a life of leadership in the wider community where our graduates will be seen as women of contemplation, competence, compassion and commitment."

The college's Open Day is on Sunday, March 22 from 1.30 to 4pm. The principal's address is at 2.30pm and at 3pm student guides will show visitors around the college. "We use student tour guides because it's amazing how in those small informal conversations with other children, parents can find out so much about a school, and you couldn't possibly orchestrate any of that or contrive any of the conversations. They just happen organically and they're wonderful," says Ms Cowling.

"We've traditionally had an Open Day and it's a fantastic day for the college because our current parents and extended family members attend. It's a relaxed day where people feel comfortable having a chat to anyone. The parents, Friends of Sport and other college associations are wonderful ambassadors – chatting to people about their experiences."

The college also holds six Open Mornings: Wednesday, February 25; Thursday, April 30; Tuesday, May 26; Friday, July 17; Thursday, August 13 and Thursday, September 10. Open Mornings run from 9.30-11am and future families hear from the principal, explore the college with student guides and have the opportunity to speak with senior teaching staff. They see the school at work in an everyday setting. Open Mornings run through the year to give parents the chance to visit the college during different seasons. Individual tours for prospective families can be arranged at any time.

"We say to parents that when you enrol your child you'll be amazed at how you become a member of the community. Often, when the girls graduate at the end of Year 12, their parents remain involved!"
