The Hungry Duck apprentice chef has been selected as a finalist in the 2015 Fonterra Proud to be a Chef mentoring program in Melbourne.
His ticket to selection came through a dessert he created: apple sorrel sorbet set on an oat crumble, with hazelnut stone, compressed apple discs and yogurt gel.
Mr Strong will take part in three days of master classes delivered by world-leading chefs and industry experts.
He and the other 31 finalists from around the nation will be closely watched, examined and marked during their stay.
Each entrant has the opportunity to win $7500 to spend on an international culinary paid placement.
To enter the mentoring program Mr Strong had to answer a questionnaire and submit a recipe.
“I decided to go with a dessert but did not expect to get anywhere with it,” he said.
“Then I received a letter which started out like a Dear John letter. “Halfway through however I realised I had been selected for the program.
“It’s a competition but it’s also a really good training opportunity and a great chance to work with some top chefs,” he said.
