After the Sharks’ best efforts to secure grant funding fell through the Eurobodalla Shire Council decided to fund the works.
Council redesigned the field to improve the surface drainage so it remains as open as much as possible.
It began to resurface the ground last week.
A Eurobodalla Shire Council spokeswoman said it was hoped the ground would be ready for use by April 1.
“Once the new surface is installed, we will have time to reassess it and make any further adjustments before it opens,” she said.
The estimated cost for the works is $95,000, which was funded in the council’s 2014-15 budget.
“In the past the field has been the most closed of all sports fields,” the spokeswoman said.
“The Eurobodalla Community Strategic Plan that was developed with extensive community consultation identified that providing the right spaces was a way to ensure our community is healthy and active, and we are pleased to be able to improve this facility and meet the needs of our sporting community.”
Moruya Sharks secretary John Cornall said the Sharks were hoping to get new goal posts to add to the new surface and an electronic score board.
“The club decided to purchase a new score board to look a bit more professional,” Cornall said.
“Our crowd will be able to see the countdown clock.”
Until the works are complete the Moruya Sharks will train at Gundary Oval on Tuesday and Friday afternoons.
