About 8.40pm two vehicles collided on the Princes Highway just north of the Shoalhaven River bridge.
According to police a 25-year-old male passenger in one vehicle died as a result of his injuries, while the two female drivers were taken to Shoalhaven Hospital for non life-threatening injuries.
Witnesses said they thought the driver of the Mitsubishi was pregnant.
Police from the Southern Region Crash Investigation Unit will investigate the circumstances surrounding a fatal crash.
Police said early investigations suggest the vehicle, being driven by a woman, and carrying a 25-year-old male passenger, was heading south on the Princes Highway before it lost control, crashing into a northbound vehicle being driven by a female.
