School zone speeds are enforced from 8am to 9.30am and 2.30pm to 4pm on school days. Be aware of school signs and road markings and slow down.
A vehicle that hits a pedestrian at 50km/h is twice as likely to cause a fatality as the same vehicle travelling at 40km/h.
All schools should have flashing lights installed by the end of this year.
Motorists are also encouraged to download the Speed Adviser App, which uses audio alerts to inform drivers of operating school zones and if they exceed the speed limit.
More information about the flashing lights program is available at www.roadsafety.
