Police and an ambulance were called to Mount Street, off The Boulevarde, about 7.45am to reports that a male motorcyclist was trapped beneath a car and was unconscious.

After being trapped for about 15 minutes, the man was pulled from under the car and treated by paramedics.

 

An ambulance spokesperson said the man, aged in his 40s, was taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in a critical condition. He died some time later.

A Transport Management Centre spokesperson said two cars and a motorbike were involved in the accident.

The Boulevarde was closed in both directions, but has now reopened.

The female driver of the car was treated for shock at the scene and was taken to hospital as a precaution and for mandatory testing, police say.

Onlooker Jovan Miletic, who had to get off his bus because it was unable to travel on its usual route, said: "My bus pulled up to the crash scene and the firefighters were looking underneath the car at the motorcyclist who was trapped.

"More firefighters came shortly after and began working on jacking the car up to try and free the man. He wasn't responsive.

"I saw the lady who was most likely driving the car, sitting on the ground crying. The police were trying to console her."
