John Moore from Narooma Fishing Charters took out Lyn and family out to Montague Island on Sunday for a very mixed bag of three kingfish, snapper, morwong, trevally, long-fin perch, ocean perch, etc.
The legal kings were only 67cm and in a large school of undersize fish. Lyn and her son Ed both of landed their first legal kings.
Nick Cowley on Playstation out of Narooma meanwhile also reported legal kingfish made an appearance on Sunday, along with a lot of undersize fish.
Hopefully things continue improve, marlin fish remains great with boats getting a couple of fish a day, Nick reckons.
John Moore meanwhile on Saturday did an afternoon run and the water was 22c and sky blue, tried for dolphinfish out on some fish trap buoys - nothing, tried for kings - nothing.
He then berleyed up this nice snapper for Jaren from Canberra. Overall it was very quiet at Montague Is and surrounds, he reported.
But on Friday he heard of some excellent catches of marlin out wide – “The radio was running hot with reports of multiple hook ups on nice fish.”
The marlin action continued and was reported on by Scotty at Bermagui Bait & Tackle.
On Saturday, he reported the marlin bite remained solid at the Bait Hole with good numbers if fish landed.
There were a few first timers amongst it all including Dan with marlin fish he, Andy and Milla switched on the spin rod. They managed several marlin going 3-3-3 switch baiting.
Zoe O'connor jumped in with her fish off the Bay on Saturday for a close up look at one of their three fish tagged so far on 'Opportunatee'.
About 40 fish tagged Saturday so far on day 2 of the Batemans Bay comp.
“We'll done to Dennis and crew on HARDARADDITT from Bermi taking out the Batemans Comp for Champion Boat, Most Marlin and Champion Female Angler.”
Then on Sunday, Scott made the following post on Bermi Bait & Tackle Facebook page:
“Latest SST highlights the warm water front pushing down past Moruya now that is likely to improve the Marlin bite further across Tuross Canyons and to the south adding a few more fish with it that are likely to hold up on the abundant bait on the Far South Coast.
“Current pattern is conducive to being a happy place for marlins to hang out. Water temps here are 21' to over 22' whereas the warmer water coming down is over 23'. This will also improve our chances of seeing a more stable return of the Kingfish to Montague Island. The few fish landed there today is a good sign.”
