THE wait to represent the NSW Country team in the Trans-Tasman Tri Series is over for Shoalhaven Heads Surf Lifesaving Club member Angus Pryde.
The series started Saturday January 10 at Shellharbour, then heads to Kiama on Monday January 12 and concludes at Warilla-Barrack Point on Tuesday January 13.
The NSW Country team will compete against SLSNZ Northern Region and Central Coast Branch over three rounds of competition
Angus said he was confident he would perform strongly as his the past few seasons on the sand have been consistently strong.
“I have medalled in every sand event I had entered bar one,” he said.
He will be taking part in the flag event and beach sprint.
Both are tough events on the sand – something Angus is accustomed to.
The flag event where competitors lie on their stomach, get up and sprint to get one of the flags before their rivals and is an iconic surf life event.
“A good start is everything in the flags and I do have to work on my starts,” he said.
His results from the 2013/14 season alone make for impressive reading.
They include: selected SLSNSW beach high performance training squad
selected Surf Lifesaving NSW Interbranch Championships - South Coast Team - beach flags third and beach sprint sixth, Strammit SLSNSW Country Championships – under 17 2km beach run second, beach flags third, beach sprint third, opens beach flags fourth and clubs NSW SLSNSW State Championships under two km beach run fourth.
