Russell Naumann said he had just been shopping at AutoPro on the Narooma Flat when the rain started coming down.
His car was parked on the other side of the Princes Highway across from the IGA and so he made a dash across the busy roadway.
“I ran back to the car, got in and turned the key and bang,” he said.
“I thought someone had run up the back of me.”
The roof of his sedan just pushed down on his head but despite appearing not to be injured, he was going to be checked out by the Ambulance paramedics.
Thankfully the car was fully insured, although it was badly damaged with the windshield smashed.
A large group of holidaymakers from the caravan park gathered and assisted to move the big branch off the car once the police arrived.
The storm was over as soon as it began and the blue skies reappeared over Narooma.
"It could have been a lot worse," Russell said.
