It is my understanding that the report has been adopted by Council and 50 per cent funding from State Government obtained.
Recently public meetings have been held and it appears that the work will go ahead at Currambene Creek in some form or other with the only uncertainty being the location in which the sand from the dredging is to be dumped. There has been discussion of placing the sand in front of houses along Callala Beach to help resist storm erosion.
This may involve the use of dump trucks or scrapers running along the beach from Currambene Creek while work at the point will include large drying areas where the pumped sand is placed to dry out prior to transport.
This dredging and dumping obviously will be very disruptive in the short term at least and requires careful planning and the approval of the local community.
If you are concerned send an email or letter to council’s general manager Russ Pigg at council or contact me on 0410614167 or email myolagreg@live.com.au.
This issue will be discussed at the next meeting of the Callala Beach Progress Association on February 9.
G. Westlake,
