Nowra Fire Station received a call about the fire in Lucas Street at 12.35pm.
Four minutes later fire crews arrived to find a fire in the garage of the two-storey home.
Firefighters extinguished the blaze and ambulance paramedics treated the two residents for minor smoke inhalation.
Station commander for Nowra Fire and Rescue John Dun said the cause of the fire was “undetermined” and police were investigating.
The damage was confined to the garage and smoke damage to the lower floor.
