POLICE investigating the shooting of a 49-year-old man in Nowra late Tuesday evening have assured the public it was an isolated incident and there was not “a wild shooter running around the area”.

The man suffered a gunshot wound to the lower leg after he was shot at Lyrebird Park off Jervis Street around 11pm.
The man has undergone surgery to have the bullet removed. Detectives are waiting for him to recover before talking to him further.
Emergency services were called to popular Nowra sporting complex around 11pm where they found a man.
He was taken to Nowra Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Detectives from Shoalhaven Local Area Command established a crime scene at the park and started an investigation.
General duties officers and detectives spent Wednesday morning combing the surrounding playing fields, conducting a number of line searches trying to find evidence, including a bullet casing.
Forensic officers searched and photographed the area, enlisting a cherry picker from Endeavour Energy to allow an aerial photograph of the scene to be taken.
Police said the victim was known to officers and while they initially spoke to him after the incident, they were waiting to further interview him but said he hadn’t been able to identify the gunman.
Inquiries are continuing and anyone who witnessed the incident, may have heard something or has information that may assist police, is urged to come forward.
