Deputy Police Commissioner Catherine Burn said the officer, 39, who was treated for minor facial wounds from a gunshot, had been treated and released from hospital.
She said on Tuesday she had spoken to him and he was keen to return to work.
He told her: "I will be back at work tomorrow."
"He is going well under the circumstances," Ms Burn said.
