THE NSW election campaign appears to have kicked off with Coalition MPs saying Illawarra and South Coast could benefit from a new plan to turbocharge NSW if the Baird Government is re-elected.

The Rebuilding NSW plan was announced by Premier Mike Baird on Tuesday, with South Coast MP Shelley Hancock and Kiama MP Gareth Ward saying the government was committed to the area.
They committed to a $300 million plan to improve the road gateways to the South Coast and Illawarra to boost the local economy and create new jobs.
They also announced $300 million for regional schools and $300 million for environmental and tourism infrastructure as part of the new plan.
Mrs Hancock and Mr Ward said Rebuilding NSW was a visionary and fully funded plan that would benefit the South Coast and Illawarra for generations to come.
“By 2031 there is expected to be an additional 57,000 people living in the Illawarra and South Coast and this plan delivers the required infrastructure for growth areas across our region,” Mrs Hancock said.
Mr Ward said the plan has been fully funded under the proposed $6 billion income from the leasing out of the state’s electricity poles and wires
The Illawarra and South Coast could also benefit from $1 billion for Regional Growth Roads, a program enabling the acceleration of road network optimisation and planning in growth areas.
