About 30 former students and their families and teachers attended the reunion at the Postman’s Tavern.
Guest of honour, former NEPS principal Bill Thompson, said it was great to see how far his former students had come.
“I and my wife June were just so proud of all of the students and some of the fabulous things they have been able to achieve after leaving school,” he said.
The reunion was the brainchild of one of the original students from the first class, Cristine Suffolk, who was joined by fellow originals Chris Coulthart and Max McLeod.
“I know Cristine was really excited about the whole reunion and she did a fantastic job along with her mother Fay in organising everything,” Mr Thompson said.
“It was fantastic to see where they have all ended up and some of the great things they have achieved. Chris played rugby for Australia, Steven Whitby cricket for Australia and Cristine? Well, she has more medals than the entire US army.”
He also paid credit to Mrs Jeanice Coulthart who was the driving force behind the establishment of the deaf class at Nowra East and all the teachers for the roles they played.
