The Berry Pop event coincides with the Berry Merry Christmas activities and will be launched with the arrival of Batman and his original 1989 Batmobile.
For three days characters from Batman, Superman, Harry Potter, Dr Who, Game of Thrones, Star Trek, Star Wars, Anime, Disney and more will visit Gotham City car park (Albert Street car park, Berry), Kings Comics Hall (Berry School of Arts) and other transformed areas of the township.
Berry Pop founder and organiser David Arakie said the main reason for bringing the event to Berry was to bring a smile to faces.
“We’re expecting between 10-15,000 people over the three days,” he said.
“Everyone is really looking forward to it.
“To me, it’s about the fun and camaraderie these events create and we are trying to capture that in Berry.”
Mr Arakie said he came up with the idea when he visited Oz Comic-Con earlier in the year.
“In early September, I met with a few other pop culture enthusiasts and we discussed a strategy to create a mini Supanova,” he said.
“It’s been overwhelming the amount of support received to get this up and running.
“We have people coming from far and wide to be involved.”
Mr Arakie said pop culture was hugely popular in parts of Asia but Australia was catching up on the craze.
“It’s all about having fun and dressing up,” he said.
“I find it cuts through all ages and cultures, bringing everyone together.”
Exhibitors, attractions, performers, Cosplayers, authors, comic book artists and illustrators will bring comics to life.
On Saturday, December 6 and Sunday, December 7 over $1000 worth of Cosplay prizes are up for grabs for the best character costume.
A Berry Pop Christmas Party dinner for 270 guests on Friday, December 5 at Coolangatta Estate will feature appearances from a range of superheroes with funds raised going towards Rotary’s End Polio Now program.
The dinner includes a cabaret show, live performances, lucky door and best dressed prizes and auctions. Tickets are from $75.
A range of events and activities will take place from 10am to 5pm on Saturday, and 10am and 4pm on Sunday.
