The workers and volunteers are putting together a Christmas Cheer package to help families cope with the extra pressures of the festive season.
The assistance is in the form of food packages, vouchers at supermarkets and new toys for children and teenagers.
“We assist between 200 and 250 families over the Christmas period,” Lieutenant Dominic Wallis of the Shoalhaven Corps said.
“There is definitely more pressure in the family finances around this time of year,” he said.
Applications for the Christmas Cheer packages close in mid-December.
To support the good work they are doing you can donate a toy at The Kmart Wishing Tree or drop it in to the welfare office.
“While we love to get toys for all age groups there is always a great need for presents for teenagers,” he said. Some suggestions suitable for that age bracket include headphones, makeup and toiletries and iTunes vouchers.
There is always a constant need for donations of food and toiletries and any donations can be dropped off to the welfare office during opening hours.
If you are a business or school you might like to think about running a food drive for the cause.
The Salvation Army runs two welfare offices in the Shoalhaven, one in Nowra and the other in Sanctuary Point.
The Nowra office is at the corner of St Anns Street and Salisbury Drive and is open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday between 9.30am and 12.
The contact number for the Nowra office is 4421 7261.
The Sanctuary Point office is open between 9am and 2pm on Mondays only and the phone number is 4443 7386.
“We are open all year around to assist those who are struggling and they are from all walks of life,” he said.
