The T20 competition is split into two pools, with the Northern Pool consisting of North Nowra-Cambewarra, Berry-Shoalhaven Heads, Shoalhaven Ex-Servicemen and Nowra, while the Southern pool consists of Ulladulla United, Bomaderry, Bay and Basin and the Cavaliers.
Batemans Bay chose not to enter a side in T20 meaning that the Cavaliers, a mixture of second grade players from around the Shoalhaven, were presented with the opportunity to play.
Defending T20 premiers Bomaderry took on the newly formed Cavaliers in the first round at Bomaderry Oval on Friday.
Winning the toss and electing to bat first, Bomaderry posted 9/171 in their 20 overs with Travis Roth leading the way with 60 runs, which included nine boundaries.
Nick Jennings hit four boundaries in 25 while Michael Blattner was the pick of the bowlers for the Cavs, taking 3/30 from four overs.
In reply, early wickets cost the Cavs with the top seven batsmen only contributing 41 runs between them.
John King made a gallant effort to restore the run chase, hitting three boundaries and three sixes in 52, which came off only 38 balls, but it wasn’t enough as the Cavaliers were bowled out in the 18th over for 120.
Daniel Roth, John Muggleton and Jordan Matthews each took three wickets.
At Hayden Drexel Oval it was Nowra who came out on top in their round one match against Ex-Servos.
Ex-Servos batted first and posted 139 before being bowled out in the 18th over.
Mathew Ganderton (23) and Sam Stewart (31) were the best for Ex-Servos while Alex Legge picked up 3/15 with the ball for Nowra.
In reply, some strong hitting by Ben Lahene (34) and Scott Fagerlund (42) ensured Nowra would chase down the Ex-Servos total inside the 20 overs.
Michael Coulter hit three boundaries and a six in 22 to seal the win in the 17th over.
Ulladulla United defeated Bay and Basin by three wickets in their first T20 match at Sanctuary Point Oval on Friday.
Batting first, Bay and Basin made 116 in 18.1 overs before being bowled out.
Callum Franchi (32) and Ben Pipe (33) were responsible for boosting the home side’s runs late in the innings, putting on 62 for the ninth wicket.
In reply, a number of small contributions was enough to ensure the visitors got over the line in the final over, with Grant Morris (21), Matthew Gilkes (17), Aaron Wester (19) and Kayleb Gatt (18) all chipping in to ensure an Ulladulla victory.
Mark Dhu was the best of the Bay and Basin bowlers, finishing with 4/22 from his four overs.
Berry took on Norths in their first round T20 match at Bernie Regan Sporting Complex on Friday.
Norths were bowled out for just 61 before Berry went on to chase the runs with nine wickets in hand.
