Joss Constructions, which is building the apartment block on the corner of Kinghorne and Worrigee streets was hit three times last week, with vandals spray-painting walls inside the four-storey building and stealing a number of tools.
Joss site manager Richard Stamp said the company had encountered a few break-ins and thefts, but last week it went to a new level.
“They came onto the site, caused a lot of damage, especially to the workers’ meal rooms and toilets and to the site office,” he said.
“They stole tools. In a couple of cases they broke open tool boxes, scattered some tools around and took others.
“They attempted to break into the site office through one of the windows and ripped out the flyscreen but couldn’t get in, so they reached inside and just scattered everything off the desk.
“They also broke into one of the other meal rooms but didn’t take anything.
“They tagged a number of walls and floors with spray paint.”
Mr Stamp said the bill for theft and damage was estimated to be around $2000.
The thieves have also broken into the on-site crane on two occasions, smashing a side window, scattering tools and a first aid kit as well as slashing the seats.
Nowra police have been notified of the latest round of attacks and are investigating but in the meantime the company has installed a full security camera system at the location and has a security guard on site when workers are not at work.
Despite the unwanted attention, construction of the apartment block is on schedule with more than 60 workers on site.
The four-and-a-half star, self-contained serviced apartments will include one one-bedroom, 40 two-bedroom and three, three-bedroom apartments.
The building will also include one retail store as well as basement car parking for 55 vehicles, conference room, gym and courtyard. It is expected to be opened in March next year.
