The weather allowed many boats to get out to their secret spots and drop bait in an attempt to attract the marauding, bait-scoffing dinner delight, but results suggest that not many fishos hunting the humble leatherjacket were successful.
The goblet was taken out by John Suthern’s .255kg morsel; still, a goblet is a goblet.
Most boats were forced back to safer waters before lunch as winds whipped up over the weekend, leading to a lower than expected number of fish on the scales.
In addition to the goblet, Suthern also took out the men’s outside category of the club’s monthly competition with a healthy 1.65kg snapper which the writer assumes was a very welcome by-catch pinned whilst chasing his trophy-winning leatherjacket.
Sadly, none of the ladies weighed in a fish in their corresponding category.
Pam Alexander swept aside any challengers in the women’s lake and estuary section with a .545kg silver trevally and Rod Fedderer won the men’s lake and estuary with his .605kg bream.
The men’s rock and beach category was won by Steve Tomin’s 500-gram tailor, as no women troubled the weigh-master in this category either.
Surprisingly, no juniors weighed-in for this month’s competition.
The club praised all winners and the committee for putting together another successful social function.
