About 3pm, Nowra police were called to the Shoalhaven District Hospital after an 18-year-old patient being treated for ice use became aggressive and fled.
It is understood the St Georges Basin man had been taken to the hospital by ambulance for treatment after attending the Worrigee Medical Centre, where he admitted to taking the drug.
After being treated at the hospital for more than an hour, the man discharged himself and became aggressive towards his mother outside the accident and emergency section.
Ambulance paramedics stepped in when the man started shaking his mother, and called police.
Officers converged on the area in a patrol car, paddy wagon and unmarked car. The man fled the area once he saw police.
Police continued to search surrounding streets for the man.
His obviously upset mother said she just wanted help for her son who was introduced to the drug as a 15-year-old.
