This made my stomach churn. I know he was making an indirect comment about Labor candidate Glenn Kolomeitz whom he often puts down for not being a long-term resident of Kiama and the South Coast area.
Being a returned serviceman myself, I question how much time Gareth has spent out of his electorate fighting for his country and putting his life on the line and suspending his family duties as Glenn has done.
I know politics is a nasty game to be in, but how dare he continue to question the commitment of Glenn Kolomeitz to his electorate?
Gareth continually questions Glenn's absence knowing fair well that Glenn served in the army and therefore did not have the pleasure of returning home to his wife and children every night as so many Australians do.
This freedom most Australians experience every night has been largely due to people like Glenn Kolomeitz, myself and the tireless dedication of our Defence Force members that give so much with often very little recognition for what they do, some of whom never return home as they made the ultimate sacrifice for this country.
Others, like myself, end up suffering in silence with post-traumatic stress disorder and depression and are only remembered on days like Anzac Day and Remembrance Day.
Shame on you, Mr Ward, for your lack of understanding and compassion for returned servicemen like Glenn Kolomeitz.
