The two local residents rode 214 kilometres in two days to help raise money for cancer research and when they struggled they just had to look around.
“Cancer survivors also took part in the ride and you could tell because they had yellow flags on their bikes,” Miss Wren said.
“One cancer survivor, at the start of the ride, was talking to us and said that 20 years ago he would not have survived his Hodgkin lymphoma.
“He survived because of the research that comes from fund-raising events like the ride.”
It was those inspirational people that kept them going.
“The pain we went through was nothing compared to what a cancer survivor goes through,” she said.
They also met and talked to an inspirational couple – the husband took part in the ride and the wife, a breast cancer survivor, was an event volunteer.
“The volunteers did a wonderful job,” Miss Wren said.
The situation for the Rolling Drones did not look good in the lead-up to the ride.
The day before, Miss Wren was so sick there was a strong chance she would have withdrawn from the event but she was determined to take part.
They also did not get to do much training because of illness and Ms Sutton being overseas.
“I think we only had about two weeks of full-on training but luckily we are both naturally fit,” Miss Wren said.
Their fitness was tested right from day one when they rode 97 kilometres from Sydney’s Homebush Olympic Stadium out to Windsor in 30-degree heat.
The next day, the Rolling Drones had to ride 117
kilometres.
“I just can’t believe we did it,” Miss Wren said.
Each entrant in the Ride to Conquer Cancer had to raise $2500.
The Rolling Drones raised their money from trivia nights and sausage sizzles.
“Bunnings, where we had our sausage sizzles, was fantastic and Club Jervis Bay gave us the venue for our trivia night for free,” Miss Wren said.
The Rolling Drones thanked all their other supporters.
