The man was the sole occupant of a red Holden Barina that was driving south on the Princes Highway when he attempted to overtake two other southbound cars about 200 metres south of the Ulladulla ExServos Club, according to police.
As the car attempted to get back onto the left side of the road it collided with another southbound vehicle, then hit a concrete median strip in the middle of the road.
The driver lost control and the car careered across the road, over a nature strip and collided with a power pole, killing the driver.
The force of the collision damaged the power pole and threatened to bring down powerlines.
Police are investigating the accident and attempting to identify the man killed.
