The NAC Curatorial Team was developed to provide the students with an opportunity for leadership in visual arts, within the college, but also the wider community.
NAC visual arts teacher Daniel Jones said the students took part in a one-day professional development course in curatorial studies at Shoalhaven City Arts Centre.
“The students are looking at the process of working with a client, developing a brief, a budget and marketing through to installation,” he said.
“The higher purpose is giving students opportunities for gaining skills and knowledge they might apply at school, in the future and in their careers.”
Student Monique Bobbermien said she’d learnt a lot of things about putting together an exhibition.
“I’d like to do commercial magazine work and it’s helpful to be shown how I might make my own exhibition successful and appealing,” she said.
Fellow student Phillip Muzzall said he was interested in art and film.
“This opportunity has been a big eye-opener in terms of what the community can offer,” he said.
The team will go on to organise exhibitions and competitions in visual arts at the school with the help of teachers.
