Defence Minister David Johnston kept media waiting for over an hour while he took a national security briefing call.
After the shooting in Canada Senator Johnston said he would expect security levels to rise.
And HMAS Albatross may not be immune.
“Security across the board is starting to step up for obvious reasons,” he said.
“What we’ve seen overnight in Canada sends a timely wake up call to all of us that we need to be much more alert.
“This region is already very secure, we’ve been dealing with security for a long time and I don’t think we have an issue with security.”
He said whether Albatross upgrades its security standing is an “operational matter for navy”.
He said he expected security in Canberra, especially at Parliament House, to be stepped up.
“We are already this morning talking about looking at what we need to do to make sure we have all our ducks in line to be secure in parliament,” he said.
