Queanbeyan City Council has launched the Electronic Housing Code on it's website.
The service enables residents to lodge complying development applications on land larger than 200 square metres or check whether their development can proceed without further approvals.
Council Sustainability and Better Living group manager Michael Thompson said the code would make the development process smoother for both the council's planning staff and the community.
"Queanbeyan City Council is one of a select number of local government areas involved in this project," he said.
"The council sees the Electronic Housing Code as an important key step towards furthering our goals to make it easier for the public to navigate the planning system and the delivery of online services."
