SHOALHAVEN Mayor Joanna Gash and Deputy Mayor John Wells along with council’s economic development manager Greg Pullen have met with the Shaolin Abbot about the $360 million Shaolin temple and tourism development project.

The trio are in China, visiting the home of the Shaolin temple, Shanghai Fuzhou Denfeng and Fuyang.
They have been joined on the trip by Shaolin Foundation representative Patrick Pang.
In Denfeng Cr Gash met the Abbot and emphasised the need for the Shaolin temple project to finalise its studies and to move on to the construction phase.
The group also met with the temple project architects, who indicated they may visit Nowra in early 2015 to begin work and speak with local consultants.
The group earlier flew into Fuzhou, reacquainting with municipal and provincial government officials regarding tourism and agriculture and furthering of interest in aged care in China.
On the first evening they were entertained by director of Fuzhou Foreign and Chinese Affairs Office (FCAO) Lin Hanjun.
The following day they visited the Airport Economic Zone, Fuzhou Urban Planning Exhibition Hall, Three Lanes and Seven Alleys (Historic Block), before meeting with the Mayor Yang Yimin.
In Fuyang, a memorandum of understanding of friendship was signed with an emphasis on education interaction and exchange, tourism product familiarisation and aged care.
