Ice addiction is a community wide problem; there have even been suggestions that a taskforce should be rolled out to try to tackle the issue.
According to an Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District (ISLHD) spokeperson, any such program would have to be endorsed by the Department of Health.
“It’s not up to a local health district to come up with a program, it is something that has to come from further up in the Department of Health,” the spokesperson said.
“Different people have different reactions to the drug and that makes it very hard to treat and create programs for it.
“There are so many different reactions it is almost impossible to come up with one specific plan.
“It is hard to break up services and provide the different services that are needed. Many patients also have addictions to alcohol and other drugs.
“You almost have to work backwards to combat the problem.
“We are always trying to improving our services and tailor services to meet demand at time.”
