Over the three-day WorldSkills Australia competition held in Perth he won gold for Retail Baking – Bread.
The WorldSkills Australia competition involves 500 apprentices, trainees and students in 50 skill and trade areas.
This makes 20-year old Mr Reminis, who works at Bakehouse Delights in East Nowra, the best at his trade in Australia and he said he was thrilled to win.
“I was the only competitor to get 10 out of 10,” Mr Reminis said.
The competition was held in September, with competitors baking over three days.
“The judges don’t just look at how good your product is, but also at areas like OH&S and hygiene,” he said.
This is the young apprentice’s second WorldSkills competition. Two years ago he won a silver medal in his category.
He said the best thing about winning gold was that there is a very strong possibility he will now have a chance to represent his country.
“If my category is included in the international WorldSkills competition I’ll be going to Sao Paulo in Brazil in August 2015,” Mr Reminis said.
In 2016, he will attend the Australian WorldSkills competition as a judge.
“It will be great seeing it all from the other side. I love seeing people learn.”
Mr Reminis puts his own success down to hard work, the new skills and fine-tuning he received at TAFE Illawarra, and the dedicated teaching he received from his father from a very young age.
