One lane of northbound traffic has been closed in Yarra about 800 metres north of the Federal Highway, causing a 1.5 kilometre queue of vehicles on the highway.
A NSW Transport Management Centre spokeswoman said the lane would be closed until late Thursday afternoon as emergency services crews worked to unload and right the truck.
As of 5pm the truck had been moved into the breakdown lane but traffic was still heavy.
She said drivers travelling between Canberra and Sydney should expect delays.
