The third reported home invasion in the Nowra-Bomaderry area in as many days has left a female victim scared and shaken.
As in the previous incident in Bomaderry, a female resident alone at the time was targeted, in her home on the corner of Osborne and Hyam Street, Nowra.
The 64-year-old woman, who didn’t wish to be named, confronted the intruder when he entered her house about 9.30pm on Monday night.
Physically shaking when recalling the incident, the woman said she hit the intruder to get him out of her house.
“It was the adrenalin. I don’t know if I could do it again,” she said.
“The house was locked, except for the back door because I was outside having a smoke.
“He came down the dark side of the house and pushed his way past me and into the house … I followed him and took to him with my fists.”
The victim said the intruder continued to sift through her belongings, which included her crochet bag resembling a handbag and also attempted to force his way through her bedrooms.
“It was all over in a matter of minutes … after throwing my bag across the room he left through the front door,” she said.
“I feel quite shaken.
“I lived in East Nowra for eight years so I’m very conscious of safety, if I hadn’t been outside smoking he would never have got in.”
The woman said the first thing she did was call her son, who was there within 15 minutes with his girlfriend.
“I wasn’t going to call police because I didn’t think there would be much they could do, but my son and his girlfriend talked me into it.”
Police and the dog squad arrived shortly after and searched the vicinity.
The woman told police the intruder was a male around six-feet-tall with a dark appearance and light growth on his face.
He was wearing a hooded jumper, pants and a beanie, which he dropped and left behind as he fled. This is now in the hands of the police.
The victim said she had lived in Nowra her whole life and felt it was sad to live in fear of her safety.
“My parents lived their whole lives never locking the house – when my father died we couldn’t even find the keys for the house.”
This incident followed an aggravated break and enter in West Nowra on Sunday night.
About 11pm a man and woman were at their home on Yalwal Road, West Nowra when a man opened the rear door and entered the house.
The intruder threatened the occupants with a screwdriver and demanded their wallets.
He then rummaged through drawers and ran from the location.
No one was injured during the incident.
Police are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed or has information about the incident including seeing a man wearing dark clothing acting suspiciously around the area, to contact the authorities.
