On Saturday, local motorbike enthusiasts donned their finery to take part in the Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride, joining an international event which raises vital funds for research into prostate cancer.
Thirteen riders took part in the Nowra ride organised by local man, Nigel Brookes and has so far raised $2429 towards the cause.
Debbie Grant from the Shoalhaven Classic Motorcycle Group was the only woman who took part this year and paraded her fake moustache and suit with sophistication and class.
“I was able to get on a motorbike which was a wonderful experience,” she said.
“It was a good opportunity for like-minded people to get together to raise money for such a cause.
“I have a friend who has prostate cancer and so it was a personal experience for me.”
The Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride aims to raise $1 million to assist in finding a cure for the disease that kills 1300 men a day worldwide.
The event was founded in 2012 and was inspired by a photo of Mad Men’s Don Draper looking sophisticated in a suit riding a classic motorcycle.
From there the idea to combat the negative stereotype of men on motorcycles was established and an international success story was created.
“It was honestly a credit to Nigel for organising such a wonderful event and we can’t thank him enough.
“I am just looking forward to next year,” Ms Grant said.
