The 58-year-old man from Auburn was arrested at his home on Tuesday.
The arrest came after a month-long investigation by the state crime command's child exploitation unit found that he had allegedly uploaded child pornography to a US website.
NSW detectives liaised with their US colleagues at the national centre for missing and exploited children in order to track the IP address to the teacher's home.
The man was subsequently charged with four counts of possession of child abuse material and two counts of using a carriage service for child pornography material.
Police also seized a number of electronic devices at the property.
He has been granted conditional bail to appear at Burwood Local Court on October 21.
