The talented 18-year-old recently struck gold at the Combined High School’s athletic championships at the Sydney Olympic Park’s Athletics Centre where he returned home with an impressive six gold medals.
The outstanding athlete won gold in the 100 metres, 200 metres, 800 metres, shot put, discus and long jump.
He capped off a spectacular carnival with a bronze medal in the javelin.
The Nowra High School student competes in the athlete with a disability category.
He got a smile one his face when asked about the thrill of winning.
“Yeah it’s a good feeling to stand on the podium,” he said.
Zac also looked like he broke an Australian record in the discus but was denied on a technicality.
A skateboard injury in 2011 turned Zac’s life upside down.
He suffered a brain injury from the fall and also had a stroke.
Before the accident he was a promising rugby union player but now his love is athletics.
Many people would be happy with six gold medals – but not Zac.
“I don’t care what sport it is but I want to compete at the highest level,” he said.
Zac has set his sights on representing Australian in a future Paralympics Games.
Moves are underway for him to get assistance from the Australian Institute of Sport so he can reach his goals.
In the meantime, Zac will be a busy sportsperson.
He will be joining the NSW Cerebral palsy football (soccer) side for the upcoming national tournament in Coffs Harbour and his swimming career is also coming along.
On the athletics front he will compete with the Nowra Athletics Club each Wednesday and he is also a champion cross country runner.
