Police said the 23-year-old’s bike left the roadway just west of Pyree Lane around 5.20pm, colliding with the stone wall entrance into a nearby property.
Mr Bell, who is a talented allrounder with the Bomaderry Cricket Club, was found lying on the grass verge with serious injuries.
He was treated by ambulance paramedics at the crash scene and taken to Shoalhaven District Hospital.
He was later airlifted to St George Hospital by the rescue helicopter with multiple injuries.
His older brother Jason posted on Facebook that Matthew suffered fractures to his ribs and spine but it appeared there was no damage to his spinal cord.
“He's pretty banged up,” the post said.
He added Matthew was struggling to breath due to the injuries to his lungs and had lost a lot of blood.
“He's heavily sedated and unconscious at the moment and was being transferred to intensive care,” he wrote.
