The Can't Stop The Serenity event is primarily a screening of Joss Whedon's epic sci-fi movie Serenity, a follow on from the TV series Firefly, both of which have amassed a huge global following of ‘Browncoats’.
The Shoalhaven Browncoats will hold a cosplay competition on the night.
Attendees can dress up in costume from any movie or book genre.
There will also be a great charity auction of various merchandise and items donated by local and Australia-wide businesses and individuals and lucky door and raffle prizes.
This event is part of a global movement to raise awareness and funds for Equality Now, an organisation that advocates for the human rights of women and girls around the world by raising international visibility of individual cases of abuse.
It mobilises public support through global membership, and by wielding strategic political pressure to ensure that governments enact or enforce laws and policies that uphold the rights of women and girls.
This year, Shoalhaven Browncoats is looking locally and raising funds for YWCA NSW Domestic Violence Support Services.
YWCA NSW, part of the global YWCA network, supports vulnerable people across NSW at times in their lives when they need it most, regardless of their age, religion or gender.
THE YWCA helps individuals, families and whole communities develop behaviours and skills to become strong and self-reliant.
This is the ninth annual Can't Stop The Serenity event (worldwide) and hopefully will be the biggest yet.
So far this year events around the globe have raised $36,500 and since 2006 have raised over $900,000.
Shoalhaven Browncoats hold one of three Australian events; New Melbourne Browncoats and Perth have recently held theirs with great success
Next year will likely see the recently formed Brisbane Browncoats first event.
