After finishing the regular season in fourth place, the odds were stacked against Heads from the beginning of the finals campaign.
But after narrow victories in the minor semi against Huskisson and preliminary final against Culburra, they managed to take their run one step further.
United, who were chasing their third consecutive premiership win, often looked the more likely of the two to score, but to Heads’ credit, they managed to keep them out.
With both sides holding strong in defence, it looked like the game might finish a scoreless draw and extra time would be required to separate them.
But the chance came for Heads when they were awarded a penalty as United were reduced to 10-men for a handball inside the box.
This gave Dave Crapp the chance to convert from the spot and he made no mistake, putting it into the back of the net for a 1-nil lead.
United never gave up in the search for the elusive goal, but with one man down they were unable to find the back of the net and the score remained 1-nil at the final whistle.
United had better luck in the third grade decider, where they ran away with a 1-nil win over Culburra.
In a very closely-contested match, a penalty from David Stokes proved to be the decisive moment in the game.
It was even closer in the second division grand final between Milton and Wreck Bay.
While Milton had gone through the entire season undefeated, they were unable to find the back of the net during the initial 90 minutes or extra time.
Both goalkeepers put in outstanding performances to keep the scores level at nil-all, taking the game to penalties.
Milton’s keeper continued his great day with the gloves, saving three penalties during the shoot out to see his side home for the win.
