After being nominated by a Tasmanian colleague, Mrs Thornett enlisted the help of Register editor John Hanscombe and journalist Dayle Latham in dousing her with a bucket of water containing ice cubes, much to the amusement of fellow staff members.
She dedicated her icy undertaking to the late Barrie Murphy, who worked at The Canberra Times print centre and succumbed to motor neurone disease in May.
The Ice Bucket Challenge for ALS/MND is a social media campaign that was initiated by Pete Frates, a former Boston College captain who is living with motor neurone disease (MND) in the US.
Since Frates posted his challenge online, the Ice Bucket Challenge has quickly gone viral, with a number of Shoalhaven residents having already taken part in the challenge.
For the record, Mrs Thornett nominated Member for Kiama Gareth Ward and Register colleague Leony East.
And we’d love to see your Ice Bucket Challenge efforts. Just email your videos or photos to robert.crawford@fairfax media.com.au and we’ll post them on the South Coast Register website.
