We live in complete harmony, me and my wife kicking up our heels and enjoying the good life, council employees doing everyday things that council workers do, and the inmates of Nowra jail, between eating and sleeping, obeying directives.
On frequent occasions, controlled groups of jail inmates can be seen in and about Berry and other parts of the Shoalhaven as labouring gangs, refurbishing park benches, weeding gardens, cleaning waterways, pruning and planting shrubs etc.; and they do a good job.
However, come July 1, 2015 the labourers will be pensioned off and replaced by Tony Abbott’s green army; underpaid peon class workers on a starvation diet that becomes a six-month expulsion from government assistance if they fail to adhere to the rules associated with the conditions of unemployment.
The message from the government is clear: if you’re unemployed you are on your own, we do not care if you starve to death, just do not bother us for financial help, we do not care about your future, you are a second-class Australian.
J. Macleod,
Berry.
