The annual adventure race raises funds for Noah’s Shoalhaven, an early intervention services centre for special needs children, but entrant numbers are down.
Noah’s Shoalhaven administration manager Cindy Griffiths said $46,500 was raised last year and about 240 people raced.
“Registrations haven’t yet closed, but we only have 180 people racing at this stage,” she said.
“Online registration closes on Wednesday night, but anyone can still enter at the race venue from 5-7pm on the Friday before the race or on the morning of the event.
“This is the fourth year the race has run and every year there has been an increase in numbers. Who knows why it’s different this year? It could be the weather or any number of things.”
Apart from low entry numbers the event is on track.
“The preparation for the race is going really well and there has been a lot of support and there are some great prizes to be won this year,” she said.
“The volunteers and everyone involved in putting the event together have done such a superb job.”
Noah’s Adventure Challenge will be held on Saturday, September 6 from 8am for a 9am start at the University of Wollongong Shoalhaven Campus, George Evans Road, West Nowra.
The triathlon styled race is designed for all fitness levels. Race legs include two mountain bike challenges, one run and one canoe challenge.
Teams will be flagged off by seven times Iron Man champion Guy Leech, who has become an ambassador for the event and will also take part in the race.
Noah’s Shoalhaven cares for children from three months old to seven years across the South Coast.
Essential services are also delivered to Aboriginal communities and organisations in the Shoalhaven.
