THE Shoalhaven’s public transport users have been reminded that 14 types of paper tickets will be scrapped from Monday as part of the NSW government’s rollout of the Opal Card ticketing system.

Train services will be the most affected by the ticket retirements, with nine ticket types – adult off-peak return, adult weekly, adult fortnightly, adult monthly, adult quarterly, adult yearly, concession monthly, concession quarterly and concession yearly – to be scrapped.
Tickets bought before Monday can be used until they expire.
Bus services are the only arm of the state’s public transport system that won’t be affected.
Shoalhaven residents will get the rare opportunity to purchase an Opal Card in person this week, with a pop-up kiosk to operate at Bomaderry Station on Thursday.
While the kiosk will operate for the day, the nearest retail outlet permanently selling the cards is in Kiama.
Kiama MP Gareth Ward defended the situation, saying Shoalhaven residents could buy the card without having to leave home.
“Customers can order their Opal card 24 hours a day from www.opal.com.au or by calling 13 67 25 and it will be delivered to your home,” he said.
“It can take five to seven working days to get an Opal card if you’re ordering online or over the phone so you should act now.”
