The junior and senior rugby league volunteer recently attended the County Rugby League’s (CRL) Holiday Inn Everyday Hero Volunteer of the Year award at a gala dinner in Sydney.
The night celebrated the achievements of 20 volunteers who were nominated for the awards by their rugby league football clubs.
Mrs Ker is a tireless volunteer for the Culburra Junior Rugby League Football and the Culburra-Greenwell Point Pirates in the senior competition.
Three of these finalists were then chosen by the CRL to advance to the One Community Awards, to be held at Carriageworks (Eveleigh) in September.
Mrs Ker was one of these elite volunteers.
The finalists are: Women in League- Anne Ker (Culburra Dolphins and Culburra-Greenwell Point Pirates JRLFC), Lifetime Achievement- Sandra Ellicott (Coffs Harbour Comets) and National Volunteer of the Year- Brad and Katrina Solman (Singleton RLFC).
The CRL Holiday Inn Everyday Hero Volunteer of the Year Program was conducted over the duration of the 2014 season with hundreds of nominations received from around the state.
“It was no small task to choose the top 20 from throughout country NSW as there are so many deserving and hard-working volunteers in our game who ensure Country Rugby League continues to thrive.” said Country Rugby League chief executive cfficer Terry Quinn.
“We wish the best of luck to our volunteers progressing to the One Community Awards in Sydney next month.”
The gala dinner was hosted by NSW Country’s own Andrew Ryan and attended by representatives from the Holiday Inn and One Community team.
Mrs Ker had a wonderful time.
“We arrived on Friday and were utterly spoilt for the entire weekend. Holiday Inn was magnificent - everything was perfect,” she said.
“The other 19 finalists and their partners were a great bunch of people and given we all had footy in common, there was never a dull moment with the chatter, and let me assure you we all could chatter!
“The CRL had CEO Terry Quinn and chairman John Anderson as well as CRL official Bert Lowrie with us for the entire weekend to ensure that everyone had a wonderful time.
“Then at the awards night on Saturday we met with other CRL staff and Andrew Ryan the former Canterbury Bulldog was our master of ceremonies.”
More details will appear in Wednesday’s South Coast Register.
