THE daffodil’s bright yellow blooms have become synonymous with the campaign to fight cancer.
This Friday, August 22, the blonde hue will be seen all over town as people acknowledge Cancer Council’s Daffodil Day with bunches of flowers, key rings, pins, pens and more.
Doris Kelsey from Bomaderry lost her husband to cancer 10 years ago.
The 78-year-old is an avid supporter of the Cancer Council fund-raiser and has been selling flowers at Stockland Nowra for several years.
On Friday she and other volunteers will be located near Kmart with items for sale from 9am until 1pm.
“I do it because they might get the cure eventually,” she said.
“And I like to give support, listen to people and talk to them. Little do they know I’ve been through it myself - who hasn’t?”
Statistics from Cancer Council show every day in Australia, 350 people will hear the words “You have cancer”.
Approximately 118 people will lose their lives to the disease.
