WITH the reported revelations provided by South Coast MP Shelley Hancock that the Community Offender Support Facility built alongside Nowra’s jail has never been commissioned for use I suggest the facility be an annexe to house offenders convicted of driving while disqualified, repeat drink driving offences and repeat traffic offences.

Magistrates should be given the option of one-month maximum sentences in company with intensive rehabilitation treatment and counselling for offenders to address their offending behaviour.
This initiative has the potential to address the ever-increasing instances of the repeat offending in defiance of court orders. Name, shame and sentence offenders in an attempt to encourage compliance.
Let us see, Mrs Hancock, if you are capable of embracing initiatives that may in some way restore confidence in our court system. It will cost but will be money well spent.
